ArcoIris Yarns, hand-dyed yarns and a geek universe
Welcome to ArcoIris Yarns, our hand-dyed yarn studio near Paris.
Here, we transform merino, silk, mohair, cotton, and other lovely fibers into colorful skeins inspired by what has always been with us: movies, TV shows, fantasy, sci-fi, video games, and pop culture.
Our playground lies somewhere between artisanal dyeing, knitting, crochet, and the geek multiverse.
From video games to artisanal dyeing
ArcoIris Yarns was born in 2017, but the story began long before that.
Since she was a little girl, Ludivine has always loved crafts and creation. Cross-stitch, knitting, crochet, drawing, even DIY... making things with her hands and, above all, keeping her hands busy has always been a part of her daily life.
When her daughter was born, she gradually returned to sewing, crochet, and knitting after several years of not practicing them. Like for many enthusiasts, projects followed one another, the yarn stash slowly started taking up space, and the desire to experiment grew as well.
One day, the idea came almost naturally:
"Hey, I’d really like to try dyeing yarn myself for my own knitting projects."
The first attempts were therefore made simply for fun, without any plan for a shop behind it. Then friends started seeing the skeins, wanting some for themselves, and then telling their friends, who then told their friends... well, you know the drill.
Word-of-mouth did its job, and little by little, what was initially a personal experiment became a real project.
ArcoIris Yarns was officially born in 2017. The name comes from our daughter's name, Iris, and the Spanish word for "rainbow": ArcoIris.
And where do video games fit into all this?
Before and during the early days of ArcoIris Yarns, we spent nearly twenty years working in the world of video games.
Imaginary worlds, grand sagas, iconic characters, games, cinema, and pop culture were therefore already a major part of our daily lives.
It was ultimately quite inevitable that these two universes would end up meeting.
And so, ArcoIris Yarns gradually became what it is today: an artisanal dyeing studio where hand-dyed yarn meets pop culture, imaginary universes, and our desire to tell stories through colors.

Our yarns are hand-dyed in small batches in our studio in the Paris region.
We work with different bases and compositions to offer yarns suitable for both knitting and crochet: merino, blends with nylon, silk, mohair, cotton, bamboo, and other fibers depending on the collections and seasons.
Each colorway goes through several steps: palette research, testing, dyeing, rinsing, drying, quality control, and finally preparing the skeins before labeling them.
Because it is artisanal work, two dye lots may show slight variations, and two skeins from the same lot will never be exactly identical.
That is also part of the charm of hand-dyed yarn.
Yarns inspired by pop culture
A cult movie, a series, a character, a video game, a distant planet, or a fantasy kingdom can very easily end up as a palette in our studio.
Our geek and pop culture yarn collections are sometimes inspired by obvious references, and sometimes by much more subtle nods.
Some become permanent collections, while others appear for a club, a box, or a limited edition.
Our idea always remains the same: to transform an inspiration into colors that you can then bring to life in your own knitting or crochet projects.
Artisanal production in small batches
ArcoIris Yarns is a small artisanal business, and we are committed to maintaining this way of working.
Our skeins are therefore produced in limited quantities. Some colorways may be temporarily unavailable, and dye lots change slightly from one dyeing to the next.
In return, we can take the time to choose our materials, check our yarns, prepare your orders ourselves, and above all, continue to create and experiment.
And when you miss an old colorway, our custom orders allow you to find a large part of our catalog on the available bases.
Skeins, and so much more
ArcoIris Yarns is not only artisanal yarn, but also themed knitting clubs and boxes, kits, mini-skeins, collaborations with other creators, and trade shows wherever we can come to talk yarn.
It is also a community that we find online and at the various events we attend. There, you can discover the colors in person, discuss your projects, and practice that very serious sport known as "skein petting."
